1st announcement

Dear all,
in September 2016 the STELLA robotic observatory is in constant operation for 10 years. Time to look
back and pet ourselves with a two-day mini-workshop. The workshop will take place in the
Schwarzschild House lecture room at the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP) on the 8th
and 9th of November, 2016.

Today, STELLA consists of two 1.2m robotic telescopes in a common building located on the Izana
ridge in Tenerife and is part of the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias’s Teide Observatory. STELLA-I
is dedicated to wide-field imaging and photometry while STELLA-II is dedicated to high-resolution
spectroscopy. This combination of imaging and spectroscopy not only fosters diverse science cases
but also rises interesting challenges for the optimized operation of such a facility.

The meeting is split into a technical part on the 8th and a science part on the 9th. The technical part
is dedicated to robotic astronomy in general and thus also highlights some other projects with
various ties to STELLA. It is thus also of interest to people planning to pursue robotic projects on their
own in a foreseeable future. The science session on the 9th focuses on scientific results obtained
with either of the two STELLA telescopes.

register early because the number of attendees is limited to approximately 60 due to the size of the
lecture hall.
