Cataclysmic Binaries with STELLA/WiFSIP: Past and Future
Cataclysmic Variables are close interacting binaries harbouring a late-type
Roche-lobe filling mass donor and an accreting white dwarf in a few hours orbit.
STELLA/WiFSIP observations were used to trigger and support space-based
X-ray observations with XMM-Newton, to search for periodicities, to
measure precise orbital periods and to classify new objects based on their
variability properties. The upcoming eROSITA mission will perform comprehensive
all-sky surveys for compact binaries and allow to compose unbiased samples.
The determination of orbital periods via photometric variability will be
a prime task for a robotic telescope like STELLA.
